Dental Fear

Do you have a phobia or suffer from dental fear. Many people suffer from fear of going to the dentist.
DentalFearCentral.org offers the following explanation.
DENTAL FEAR is a reaction to a known danger (“I know what the dentist is going to do, been there, done that – I’m scared!!”), which involves a fight-or-flight response when confronted with the threatening stimulus.
DENTAL PHOBIA is basically the same as fear, only much stronger (“I know what happens when I go to the dentist – there’s no way I’m going back if I can help it. I’m so terrified I feel sick”). Also, the fight-or-flight response occurs when just thinking about or being reminded of the threatening situation. Someone with a dental phobia will avoid dental care at all costs until either a physical problem or the psychological burden of the phobia becomes overwhelming.

Wisdom, good call, dentalfearcentral.org is essentially THE site I’d recommend to people with a dental phobia. In fact, I wrote a post about it some time ago – http://www.dentalheroes.com/are-you-afraid-of-the-dentists/.
It amazes me how many people in the United States alone have dental phobias – it’s in the millions. So, it’s obviously an issue of concern that the dental community should be dedicating more time to addressing.

Dental phobia and dental fear are issues that most experienced hypnotherapists treat on a regular basis. Following treatment, patients are often amazed at how easy it really was for them to free themselves from this really powerful and incapacitating fear. Dentists should suggest an hypnotherapists treat to their patients.

What most people don’t know is that good communication (between him/her and the dentist) is important in conquering their dental phobia. Dentists are not mind readers, they wouldn’t know what exactly it is they are afraid of. Believe it or not, a lot of dentists are well-trained and know how to make a patient feel comfortable with what they are afraid of.
