Oral Surgeon Websites: Similar Content

I wanted to alert everyone to a new article I just wrote and updated on my website http://www.teethremoval.com/oral_surgery_websites_similar_content_similar_sites.html.

It talks about how oral surgeons are using PBHS Inc. to design them websites. However, PBHS Inc. uses a template for the websites so the content for all of the websites designed is very similar. This means the information on procedures and even after care procedures for a large number of oral surgeon and oral surgeon group’s websites are nearly exactly the same if not identical. This is quite alarming to me and you should be aware of this if you are considering wisdom teeth removal surgery.

The likely explanation is that oral surgeons are not skilled in website design and are not taking the time to modify the content provided by PBHS Inc. Even so, PBHS Inc. has a very large number of oral surgeons in the U.S. who they have developed websites for and are making quite a nice amount of money.

  1. Good catch. I’ve always been curious about the cookie-cutter dental sites out there and the story behind them. However, you took it one step further and nailed down the company responsible for a lot of this.

I would, however, split the blame among the web design company and the oral surgeons. I think the design company should consider requiring the oral surgeon to provide their own content. That’s how most design companies that are worth anything do it. Besides, don’t these oral surgeons have more pride than to allow canned copy onto THEIR website?

  2. Yeah it was a good find. The design company does do a pretty good job with website design and is definitely at fault for providing the content to the oral surgeons. However, this likely helps them sell as then the oral surgeons see the web design company as more tailored to them.

Yes I would think that an oral surgeon would be better than leaving up the exact content provided by PBHS Inc. for their website. It makes you wonder if they even took the time to read it. This is supposed to be the advice they are offering to their own patients.

  3. Actually, since oral surgery is a vertical community, content will always be similar. Only so many ways to describe wisdom teeth removal – be realistic. My experience as an OMS, this is a good company, with good people who truly care about their clients and their patients.

  4. Thanks for the reply and visiting Craig. I feel that any site, no matter what industry, should not be distributing identical content as part of a package of its website development.

A proper web design company would not be doing this sort of practice as they know that it is strongly looked down on…..

I do however feel that it is very important for their to be similar procedures, instructions, and content regarding oral surgeons. But I would like to see oral surgeons producing their own content or at the very least, having a disclaimer stating where it came from and that they read it over and feel it is good information for their patients.
