Woman Parodies Birth Announcement with her Wisdom Tooth Removal

Nowadays the social media landscape is rapidly shifting more to a short-form video form, dominated not by Facebook parent Meta Platforms, but by TikTok. In January 2022, a woman who is a registered dental hygienist used her wisdom tooth removal as an opportunity to make a parody video of a birth announcement on her TikTok account. In the video, the woman examines a toothbrush which she uses as her “pregnancy test”. While looking at the toothbrush the woman acts suprised but happy by what she sees. Periodontal Therapy Impact on General Health

An interesting article titled “Impact of Periodontal Therapy on General Health,” appears in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine (published online June 18, 2014) and written by Marjorie Jeffcoat and et. al. The authors attempt to estimate the effects of periodontal therapy on medical costs and hospitalizations among those with type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, cerebral vascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and pregnancy. The goal was to see if periodontal disease therapy might prevent or mitigate some of the adverse effects associated with the 5 studied conditions. The authors found significant reductions in healthcare costs and hospital admissions for pregnant women and patients with type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, and cerebral vascular disease. Periodontal Disease and Pregnancy Risks

An often disagreed point in the literature is whether or not periodontal disease is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preterm births and low birth weight.
