Recently, thanks to Visa, I have been advertising on Facebook this site. I was able to receive $100 free worth of advertising on Facebook. This is a pretty large number; however, a lot of people have been having problems achieving results with Facebook Ads. If you found myself through Facebook, thanks for coming!
I created a quick ad in facebook and launched a new campaign. I already had an account, so all I had to do to get the $100 free was to ad the Visa Business Application, check my email, and enter the code under the funding sources in billing.
Since I did not know where to bid I decided to start my biding at a modest $0.26. Immediately I was greeted with a typical message from Facebook Ads. “The bid on your ad may be too low to receive a significant number of impressions. We recommend raising your bid to at least ..”
Well I set my daily budget at $10.00. And guess what, I spent the entire daily budget in less than 5 minutes. With over 60,000 impressions as well. Give me a break Facebook.

Anyways this told me I set my bid too high, so I lowered it to $.24. The next day my budget did not deplete nearly as fast, but it still didn’t take the whole day to spend the $10.00. So I knew I was still too high. The next day I decided to set my bid to $.21. Now I checked back later than evening, the ad had been running the whole day, and I still had not spent my budget, so I increased the bid by a few cents. By the end of the day, the budget had been spent.
What I learned from this, is that is possible to find out the right bid price for the ad you are running. Another tip, is to check the ad again in the early evening. If you still have not reached your budget, increase the bid by a cent or two. Just because Facebook does not allow you to target based on times, does not mean you can not manually do it. A lot more users are on in the evening hours anyways.
This graph shows how lowering my bid, even when Facebook told me it was too high, increased the amount of clicks I got for my budget of $10.00.

I did not bother trying out different ads because impressions may have helped get traffic along with clicks so I was not really concerned with my CTR. However, I did notice that certain states in the U.S. seem to cost a few more cents for the same ad

I am happy to announce that I am now allowing for advertisers to purchase banner ads on this blog.
There are three options currently available.
1) A 468 x 60 ad at the top of (almost) all blog posts. The current price for this is $25.
2) There are 2, 125 x 125 ads in the right side bar available on the entire blog. There is a price of $25 currently for this.
3) There is a 300 x 250 ad available for purchase at the end of each blog post. The current price for this is $10.
The ads are handled through a WordPress plugin called OIOpublisher. If you are interested in learning more about it or adding it to your blog go here.
Payment for the ads is set on a monthly basis and is done through paypal. All banner ads are currently set at nofollow.
I also added the top commentators plugin, comment luv, and a widget for BlogCatalog to the blog.

Taking the drug topiramate (topamax) alone orwith other epilepsy drugs during pregnancy may increase the risk of birth defects, according to a recent study
Research has shown that many epilepsy drugs increase the risk of birth defects, but little research has been done on topiramate. Studies have shown that topiramate increases the risk of birth defects in animals.
A looked at178 babies born of which 16 had major birth defects. Three of these were in infants whose mothers were taking only topiramate, and 13 were in those whose mothers were taking topiramate and other epilepsy drugs.
“.. results should also get the attention of women with migraine and their doctors, since topiramate is also used for preventing migraine, which is an even more common condition that also occurs frequently in women of childbearing age,” says John Craig, MRCP, of the Royal Group of Hospitals in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
This study found that more birth defects occurred in women taking topiramate along with the drug valproate, or valproic acid, than in women taking topiramate and another epilepsy drug. Research has shown that valproate is associated with a high risk of birth defects.
The study was supported by a research grant from the Epilepsy Research Foundation and by unrestricted educational grants from GlaxoSmithKline, sanofi-aventis, UCB Inc., Janssen-Cilag, Pfizer, and Eisai.

Dr. David Leader of the Malden Dentist wrote a great article about the current views, issues, and opinion surrounding the removal of wisdom teeth. The article in it’s entirety is located at the following URL http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/823821/studies_question_wisdom_tooth_extraction.html
I have some excerpts below from the article.
“Many do not realize that there is a controversy in the dental community regarding the advisability of prophylactic wisdom tooth (third molar) extraction…
This difference of opinion leaves the patient and perhaps their parents with a difficult decision. It is important to listen carefully to their dental advisors, their general dentist and their oral surgeon. Read the informed consent materials and ask questions. Patients must then decide if the recommendations of third molar extractions make sense to them.
Then, patients will have to live with the good and bad results of their choices.”
The article discusses the current sides to the controversy in the wisdom teeth removal argument presenting a discussion from the dentist not being able to predict what will happen, the AAOMS’s stance, and the British National Institute for Clinical Evidence. It is a must read for anyone thinking about wisdom teeth extractions.

Google Page Rank
Another round of page rank updates has rolled out recently. I am pleased to announce that the page rank of this blog increased from a 3 to a 4. The page rank on the main domain http://www.teethremoval.com. Is only a 3. Thus, the blog has a higher page rank.
I find this interesting because I hardly ever promote the blog subdomain when marketing this website. I always use the root domain name.
Thus it appears that Google gives preference to WordPress blogs over regularly designed websites. Or perhaps it is due to the plugins I am running in WordPress and which are not running on my main root level domain. Regardless, if you are seeking to start a new website it is a good idea to use a WordPress blog or use one in conjunction with your root level domain.
Microsoft Ad Center
In other news, Microsoft Ad Center, after 3 phone calls, finally sent me the following email.
Our Billing Department has indicated that your account was closed because it has come to their attention that you appear to be in violation of our Promotional Code guidelines which clearly states: “Limit: one promotional credit per customer.” It appears you have registered multiple adCenter customer accounts to redeem the promotional code multiple times.
I signed up for the promotional offer they were running that expired at the end of June, 2008. The offer was for a free $75 in clicks. All you have to do is pay a $5 sign up fee.
It appears that the billing department somehow found out that I had signed up for different accounts even though I was using different credit cards and shut some of my accounts down. Even so, I did make a good amount of money off the promotional offer for a couple of hours of work.
